Guests at the DCSAR Awards Banquet and Installation of Officers held on May 1, 2025, at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia, were absolutely ecstatic with the arrival of 96-year-old DCSAR life member Peter Dixon. Peter has been a member since the approval of his application on February 29, 1960. He served as DCSAR President in 1977-78, Vice President General in 1998-99, and was awarded the Minuteman Medal in 1999. Peter may very well be the oldest active member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
The invocation and blessing were given by The Rev. Dr. John Stonesifer, DCSAR Chaplain. Special guests were introduced by DCSAR President Brock Bierman.
After dinner President Bierman awarded a host of certificates and medals to various members of the DC Daughters of the American Revolution, the DC Children of the American Revolution and the DC Sons of the American Revolution. Peter Dixon was the recipient of the DC SAR Honor in Service Cross that takes its name from the Latin phrase, honor in officio, expressing esteem for those who perform acts of benefit beyond themselves and in this case for service to DCSAR.
The guest presenter was Alfred D. Hagen. Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, Fred Hagen spent his formative years as a wildcat carpentry contractor roaming the Alaskan frontier. In the late 1970s, Fred traveled to Alaska to find employment on the Oil Pipeline Project. While working on the pipeline during the day, Fred attended the University of Alaska in the evenings and worked as a carpenter on the weekends. Through this journey, Fred learned about the construction industry from the ground up. When he moved back to Bucks County in 1979, he continued working as a carpentry contractor. Six years later he became signatory to a carpentry union agreement and formed Hagen Construction, Inc. in 1987. A part of his presentation involved the recovery of a P47 shown in his PowerPoint presentation after they lifted it off a 10,000’ razorback ridge in the Finisterre Range of Papua New Guinea.
SAR Secretary General Mike Elston administered the oath to the recently elected officers of the DCSAR. The gavel was presented to President Geoffrey L. Newman who then received the DCSAR presidential badge and ribbon from Past President Bierman
