Arthur M. And Berdena King Eagle Scout Scholarship Contest

Open to all Eagle Scouts who are currently registered in an active unit and have not reached their 19th birthday during the year of application.  (The application year is the calendar year, 01 January to 31 December.)  The year that the Eagle rank was awarded is not restricted. College plans do not have to be completed in order to receive the cash scholarship.

Three cash scholarship awards are given:

  • As the National First Place Winner – $8,000;
  • Runner-up – $4,000;
  • 2nd Runner-up – $2,000.

You may apply in more than one year if you meet the age requirements, but no more than $8,000 total may be granted to any one Eagle Scout at the national level.  Additional prizes and recognitions may be awarded at the State level.

The District of Columbia Society (DCSAR) offers three cash scholarship awards:

  • First Place – $1,000;
  • Runner-up – $500;
  • 2nd Runner-up – $250.

You may apply more than one year if you meet the age requirements but no more than $1,000 total may be granted to any one Eagle Scout at the D.C. level. Entrants need complete only one application – the one for the District of Columbia competition. The application of the D.C. winner is forwarded to be used in the State and National competitions as appropriate. The application consists of three parts:

  1. Eagle Scout Application
  2. Eagle Scout Ancestor Chart
  3. 500 word Patriotic Themed Essay

The competition is conducted in two phases, D.C. (“state society”) and National, and must be entered at the State level.  You may not enter at the National level. Scholarship Application Form Instructions:

  • The form must be filled out on a computer.  You may save this form to your computer.
  • Sections I and II are completed by filling in the blanks.
  • Sections III through VIII may be completed using as many lines as needed, and additional pages may be used so long as the Applicant’s name appears at the top of each page.

Please indicate by Roman numeral and category what is referred to in your addendum. Contest Application including Application Form, Four Generation Ancestor Chart, and Essay limited to eleven (11) pages total. Send this document, obtain required signatures, and mail with the Four Generation Ancestor Chart and Essay to dnpeterson@letterboxes.org.
